Flash Photography Class

As a photographer mastering flash photography will hugely improve your photography and understanding of lighting. We will cover how to properly use your external Camera Flash/Speedlite. Learn the settings and modes of the flash and camera. Like the TTL Metering mode: which is a common mode on your camera and Speedlite. Which helps your camera and Speedlite communicate with each other. You will also learn the difference between fill light and key light. We will be working with both available lighting and flash photography. While walking through troubleshooting, making adjustments, and successfully capturing portraits & landscapes.

50mm Lens Meetup

The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.
Rule of Thirds

One of the most basic tenets of composition is the Rule of Thirds. Although most people are familiar with this technique it is often forgotten in the haste to take a photo. However you ignore it at your peril as it can make an average snap into something which is has tension and dynamism.
In this meetup we will practice using the Rule of Thirds in a setting full of photographic possibility.

Street Photography

People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.
We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.
Black and White Photography

Introduction to Black and White Photography. What makes a good Black and White shot?
We will look at the contrast and using textures. How does the camera see the image and how do we create Black and White images in a camera or in post-production. We will look for some good examples and set some exercises.
This is a more advanced course and assumes you understand the basics of photography and controlling your camera.

Composition is one of the most critical element in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image, frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty You will find formal rules, opinion, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.
Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.
This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.
Double Exposure Class

A double exposure is a photograph composed of two combined and overlaid images. You can create double exposures in Photoshop or with digital cameras using a special setting. These images often have a dreamy, otherworldly feel and you can use them for great artistic effect, with both digital cameras and film.

Macro Photography Class

Macro photography is a unique form of photography that involves photographing small objects to make them look life-sized or more significant in the photo. The usual subjects include flowers and small insects, which we don't normally get to see up close with the naked eye.
The class will start when the insects are more active. So be ready to explore and capture breathe-taking macro images.
Please bring a fully charged battery, lots of space on your memory card, good walking shoes, some water to drink, and an umbrella if it looks like it may rain.

This class is for anyone looking to switch their camera mode from Auto to Manual and learn how to shoot using the Manual Mode. The goal is to help everyone become more confident when using their cameras. We will touch on the exposure triangle: Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO.
